Welcome!

Hello Tutors!

Welcome to the new literacy blog. I'm hoping this will be a way for us to keep in contact with each other, post new events, and share ideas and comments. Although I'll be keeping this updated, I would like you to feel that this is your forum.

Right now I'm working on setting the dates for the next tutor training. This will probably be in June. I'm also setting the date for our second annual student/tutor picnic and recognition barbecue. A couple years ago we had this in the forest preserve. That went well, but I'm open to suggestions!

Last night we had our first online tutoring orientation. Four new tutors completed the online training and joined me for a orientation in the evening. Welcome ladies! If you know anyone who might be interested in online training, the link is on our web page, as well as the online application: http://www.morainevalley.edu/Literacy/tutor_training.htm

As you may know, the final statistical report will be due at the end of June. If those of you who are currently tutoring a small group or an individual tutor could send me your hours for the last quarter and the upcoming quarter that would be great. There is a new online hours form on our web page: http://www.morainevalley.edu/Literacy/instructional_hours.htm . If you are tutoring in the open tutoring drop-in labs or tutoring in a classroom you do not need to send in hours.

I'm hoping that by putting more of our forms online we can reduce our paper use and make things more convenient for everyone.

Pro Literacy America (of which we are a member) is trying to get 10,000 supporters for its "Statement of Adult Learner Rights" that it plans to present to Congress: http://www.proliteracy.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=555 . Even if you choose not to endorse the statement, take a look at the web page. It has a lot of interesting information.

Thanks everyone for your great work. I hope this will help keep us all in better contact.

Thanks for visiting!
Megan
